FOR the first time in recent history, local athletes will compete in the Regional Annual Sports Awards (RASA) AwardstobehostedbytheAUSCRegion.

Some of the sportsmen nominated for the prestigious awards slated for the Birchwood Hotel in Johannesburg, South Africa, are Mbabane Swallows captain Tony ‘TT’ Tsabedze, coach Thabo ‘Koki’ Vilakati, athletes Sibusiso ‘Swazi Bolt’ Matsenjwa, Phumlile Ndzinisa, Mcebo Dludlu and taekwondo artists Carlota Munave.

These were nominated for the regional awards after winning in certain categories in the national awards hosted by the Swaziland National Sport and Recreation Council (SNSRC) in October last year.

SNSRC Chairman Lawrence ‘Lolo’ Mthethwa took to social network site Facebook to wish the nominees the best of luck during awards.

“All the best to our athletes, coaches and reporters who have been nominated for the Regional Annual Sports Awards (RASA) to be held in Johannesburg (Birchwood Hotel).

“Team Eswatini will battle it out with athletes, coaches and journalists from nine other Southern African countries,” he said.

The organisation’s Media Officer Dumisani Ntiwane said they would issue a statement in due course when sought for comment yesterday.
